They forget to mention

that our food was built off of the resources we had

And seasoned with every emotion known to man

because that was what made soul food, soulful

A dash of despair in the cornbread

Joy sprinkled throughout Big Ma's mack and cheese

And Anger like cayenne for the collard greens
